Meet the new Editors-In-Chief at Beach Media
Acsah Lemma, Leila Alarcon and Darya Jararinejad reflect on the journey that led them to Beach Media Publications — one shaped by shared goals, mentorship, and community collaboration.
Beach Media is pleased to announce the new editors-in-chief for each of its publications: Acsah Lemma (Long Beach Current), Darya Jafarinejad (DIG Magazine) and Leila Alarcon (ENYE Magazine).
These individuals have demonstrated a strong commitment to their respective publications and a passion for writing that motivated them to get involved.
“Writing is my passion. I was naturally drawn toward these spaces. When I first saw DIG Magazine, I instantly recognized it as unique and beautiful—a place where student ideas, passions and insights flourished…I knew I would be able to add to the foundations of DIG,” Jafarinejad said.
All three editors emphasized the importance of growth and the support they received from the community around them. Working alongside others with similar goals and learning from experts, they said, helped them achieve their best and reach where they are today.
“The Current allows me to be in a space with like-minded individuals who are all in their own pursuits toward becoming better journalists and that encourages me to always strive to be better,” said Acsah Lemma. “That’s why it’s so great that all my friends are in the newsroom which makes me excited to go in.”
When asked if they had advice for aspiring newcomers or students considering joining, each shared sincere words of encouragement, acknowledging how challenging it can be to start. Alarcon, for example, overcame the obstacle of a language barrier with the support of the ENYE team.
“My advice to anyone looking to be a part of the ENYE team is to just go for it…We’re all here to help each other,” Alarcon said.
Echoing a similar sentiment, Acsah Lemma emphasized the welcoming nature of her publication. “My advice would be there’s always space for you here. Even if you’ve never studied journalism or you didn’t receive a staff spot, our newsroom is open to everyone. Our job is to make sure you learn so don’t be afraid to stop by and ask questions!”
With the rebranding and new momentum at Beach Media, now is an exciting time to tune in and see what is blossoming with the new editors-in-chief.
